Landon Leroy Robbins

Landon Leroy Robbins FINALLY made his appearance after 22 hours of labor on Thursday November 4, 2010 weighing a large 9 pounds 8 ounces and measuring 22 inches long! He has big hands and big feet and big shoulders. I can't believe that he fit inside of me somehow! The doctors told me that he was going to be a large baby a few weeks ago but none of them anticipated that he would weigh more than 9 pounds.
At 12:45 on Thursday morning, my water broke. We called the doctor and he told me to make my way over to Labor and Delivery. So, I woke up Dave and we grabbed our bags and got in the car. We got to the hospital and checked in. I wanted to make sure that I was going to be admitted before calling either of our families. So, after about 30 minutes of tests and paperwork, I was admitted and told that I would be starting Pitocin in an hour if I hadn't already progressed on my own. (I was only dialated 1 cm still) At 2:30, Dave and I called our parents to tell them the good news, knowing that it was going to be a long process. When I called my parents, I told them to just come when they woke up in the morning but, they couldn't wait, so they started making their way to Provo and got there around 6:15am. I really wanted to wait as long as I could to get my epidural. I tried so hard to be tough and wait as long as I could but after about 3 hours on the pitocin, the contractions were really intense so I had my epidural placed. Around 1pm the baby's heart rate dropped and I was twisted and turned into a bunch of different positions to get the baby off of his umbilical cord. During all this turning, my epidural was dislodged and I could feel EVERYTHING! Another hour or two later, we decided to do another epidural. This epidural worked for a few hours and then gradually started to wear off. The anestheiologist said that my body wasn't responding to the medication so he was going to have to manually administer a higher strength every 45 minutes. Around 9pm I was finally dialated to a 10 and could start pushing. I am so glad Dave was there to help me. He was so encouraging and positive even though I know it was really hard for him to see me in pain, he did so good and I couldn't have done it without him. The doctor finally said that he could help me by using the forceps. So without going into too much detail, he used them and was able to get Landon's head out but his shoulders got stuck. This caused his umbilical cord to get pinched off and he was without oxygen for about 45 seconds. He also had some fluid in his lungs. Once they were able to get him out, he was rushed to the table next to me and the NICU people were rushed in my room because he wasn't breathing. They attached a heart monitor to him and we were able to hear his heart beat even though we couldn't hear him cry because he had a tube down his throat. He was taken to the NICU before I was able to hold him, but was able to see his face for about 10 seconds before they wheeled him out. The next couple of hours were really hard for me. Not seeing him and holding him was breaking my heart, even though all of the nurses kept telling me that he was doing fine and that they were just making sure that everything was okay before releasing him from the NICU. Finally, after being transfered to the Mother/Baby part of the hospital, they brought him to my room around 1:30am. As soon as I saw his face, I couldn't concentrate on how much pain I was in or what I had just gone through. He had the sweetest face, even though it was really puffy and his right eye was really swollen. We instantly fell in love with him. My parents were there when they brought him to us so they were able to see him before leaving the hospital. Dave spent the night at the hospital with me and my parents went to Santaquin to stay at my house. We had a lot of visitors the next day in the hospital. All of Dave's family came and some of my relatives came and some of our friends. The next day, my parents had gone back to Logan and picked up both my grandma's and Brady and Virginia.

It was really nice to finally come home from the hospital. We have been having a great time with the baby, even though he is a lot of work. He sleeps really well and is still learning how to eat, but every day he just gets better and better. My mom has been staying with me this week to help me out. THANK HEAVENS FOR HER! I seriously think I would've had a mental breakdown without her. Dave had to go back to work on Monday so, I wouldn't have had his help during the day while I'm healing AND trying to take care of the baby.

Landon had his first Doctor appointment yesterday (November 9) just a 5 day check to make sure that he's still doing okay. The dr. said that he's doing great. He has lost 6 oz so he currently weighs about 9 lbs 2 oz. (still huge)

Today, I'm taking him to get his pictures taken. So far, he really enjoys his carseat, bouncer and his boppy pillow. He HATES getting his diaper changed or having any articles of clothing removed. He's starting to smile a lot in his sleep.

Thanks to everyone that has come to visit or has called or texted. We are so excited to have Landon here finally and so greatful that he his healthy and that I'm healthy after such a scary day! We are so blessed to have him in our family!
